I’d like to take a second to talk about Captain America Comics #1, the first appearance of the Cap. He is punching out Hitler on the cover! MARVELOUS. BUT… it gets better.
See, this comic was published in March 1941. Now some of you more attentive people may see where this is going.
The attack on Pearl Harbor didn’t happen until December 1941. The US didn’t declare war on Germany until December 11, 1941.
This may seem strange, but the idea of a guy in an American flag costume punching out Hitler was actually controversial at the time.
According to writer Joe Simon, American pro-Nazi supporters sent the offices hatemail, obscene phone calls, and death threats. A group of men hung around the studio and intimidated the employees.
The studio called up the police and told them about the men. Some time later, the Mayor of New York Fiorello LaGuardia called Simon to tell him he was going to send a cop over and to “keep up the good work.” A police officer was around the offices regularly and the men stopped coming around.
To sum up: CAPTAIN AMERICA WAS PUNCHING OUT NAZIS BEFORE IT WAS “COOL”.
More subtly: the Cap, since the beginning, is meant to represent American ideals, not the American government. He punched out Hitler because it was right, not because Nazi Germany was at war with his country.

Unless you’re new to the internet, you’ve probably heard about the backlash because the actress playing Rue (Amandla Stenberg)–and to a lesser extent Cinna (Lenny Kravitz)–is black. Even though the book described Rue as a girl with “dark brown skin and eyes” (Chapter 3, p. 45). Even though Amandla does a remarkable job. Even though many of us couldn’t imagine Rue without Amandla. However, just a few pages prior to Rue’s physical description, Katniss states “District 12 was in a region known as Appalachia. Even hundreds of years ago, they mined coal here. Which is why our miners have to dig so deep.” (Chapter 3, p. 39). I’ve come to the conclusion that people must have skimmed or skipped Chapter 3 entirely because people seem to forget 1) that Rue is dark-skinned, and/or 2) that District 12 is explicitly stated as having been Appalachia.“Capitol”-ism in Action: Classism and The Hunger Games — Kaci and Amber’s HPA blog (via thehpalliance)

if he did Donna would see it on television, recognize him and thus her mind would burn up.
Eleven has realized this and thus he’s now carrying it to save her life.
He’s got it under control.
